NEOAVER.org
- NorthEastern Ohio American Veterans for Equal Rights - Cleveland / Akron / Canton / Youngstown chapter of
AVER. This site is presently under reconstruction as the chapter is rebuilding after a long period of dormancy. |
AVER
- American Veterans for Equal Rights [formerly GLBVA] - a national Veterans Service Organization. The site template
had not changed much at all since 1998 - aqua background with red, white, and black text, so it required a ground-up
overhaul. The org. also wanted to add various interactive features, plus an online payment gateway for dues and donations.
When I took control of this site in September 2004, I created all new graphics and a basic PHP template so that several
dynamic files could be called on all web pages, plus custom contact, donation and membership forms, and then integrated
a highly modified phpBB bulletin board. In Spring of 2008, I converted the site to the Joomla!1.5 Content Management
System (Section508 compliant) so that officers without any web design experience could generate content as easily as
using a word processing program or a rich-text email client, instead of relying on a web developer for each and every
update. As of 30 September 2010, complete control of this site will be transferred to AVER's Chief Systems Administrator,
who will mainly be in charge of security updates and version upgrades. Do you need a feature rich site that YOU
can maintain / update? Ask me about a Joomla! installation! |
As
a graduate student, I was hired as the webmaster for the Anthropology Dept at KSU -- a very impressive department in
its own, and now sister dept. of the Matthew
Ferrini Institute for Human Evolutionary Research. The goal in designing this website was to bring it out
of 1999 and as far into contemporary web design as possible so that its utility would last for several years, while
building the structure in such a manner that [whichever graduate assistant took over after me] would not need to be
a pro-web designer to maintain it. It employed both javascript drop-down menus, as well as a full footer site-map to
maintain Section508 compliance. This site was completed in December 2003. My complete design was in use until early
2009, setting its lifespan at just over 5-years. In 2010, this site was converted to the standardized Kent State University
template. |
